Magazine Genre Research

This Backpacker magazine discusses the best local hiking areas, it includes information about the wilderness and adventure. Some articles even provide survival advise and trip reports for hikers. Readers enjoy this magazine because there are reviews on equipment, and destinations.
This magazine was founded in 1973 in Colorado. William Kemsley took three years to put together the first magazine, William and his team were worried that the backpacking community was not large enough to support his new business. Currently, this magazine is worth 14.5 million dollars.
The cover shown above portrays a scenic area that a hiker would be interested in. This magazine would mostly appeal to people who like to travel outdoors, like camping and hiking. From looking at the cover, the reader can already tell what the magazine is going to be about. Some of the words are written in a yellow that contrasts the background of the cover. This draws the reader's attention.
The title written in large white letters that match the photo, but the subtitles are not small, they take up a lot of space, and are what the reader looks at before proceeding to open the front cover.
I like how this magazine used the yellow words to draw the readers attention, but the yellow also matches the background, appealing to the magazine design. I also like how the font is easy to read, in a large print font.
This would be a travel magazine to consider before I start to create my own. It is important to look at all different types of travel before I decide on what type of content my magazine will contain.
