This magazine was produced by Arizona Highways. It is based around Phoenix Arizona and was first issued in 1925. This was made to promote new roads that were being built in Arizona. This would interest me because I have traveled to Arizona and spent a lot of time driving on the highway, taking pictures. This may be something I would want to include in my magazine, I like the font of the words on the front cover. They are different from all other magazines I have looked at because of the cursive font. It makes the magazine seem fancier. The green and blue colors of the front cover make the magazine look natural and very scenic. Anybody looking at this would want to travel to Arizona and see it in person.

This magazine was produced by National Geographic, they are linked to Disney and are a an American TV channel. This magazine focuses on traveling in an environmental perspective. National Geographic has been publishing magazines since 1888, since it was founded. It mostly contains information about geography, history, world culture, and science. I am noticing a pattern with the color yellow between magazines. I think that yellow is an important color because it captures a readers' attention to the contrasting colors. This front cover below has a lot of different colors, the blues, yellows, and whites take up most of the space. It is appealing to look at and makes me want to turn the page. The Title is written very largely on the cover so the reader knows right away what company published the magazine. The largest letters on the cover read "Best" and "World". These positive words make others more interesting in turning the page. I would want to enlarge th...

This Backpacker magazine discusses the best local hiking areas, it includes information about the wilderness and adventure. Some articles even provide survival advise and trip reports for hikers. Readers enjoy this magazine because there are reviews on equipment, and destinations. This magazine was founded in 1973 in Colorado. William Kemsley took three years to put together the first magazine, William and his team were worried that the backpacking community was not large enough to support his new business. Currently, this magazine is worth 14.5 million dollars. The cover shown above portrays a scenic area that a hiker would be interested in. This magazine would mostly appeal to people who like to travel outdoors, like camping and hiking. From looking at the cover, the reader can already tell what the magazine is going to be about. Some of the words are written in a yellow that contrasts the background of the cover. This draws the reader's attention. The title wri...

The Afar magazine was started in 2009 when Sullivan and Joseph Diaz took a 6 week trip to India and felt inspired to operate a non-profit foundation that provides scholarships for students to take educational journeys around the world. This Magazine focuses on experimental travel. The magazines are produces in San Francisco and around 7 of them are published per year. More than 1 million people visit the Afar website every month. This magazine cover shows an ariel shot of the tops of  mountains. The picture is from a high perspective and is very scenic. There are no adds, extra chapter titles, or authors on this front cover, but the reader can tell what the magazine is going to be about without turning the page.  The title is in the upper left hand corner in a large easy to read font. The black letters contrast the blue and green background. I like how the title is placed so that it is one of the focal points of the page, but at the sam...

A genre that interests me is a possible travel magazine. I am looking at a magazine cover titled "Lonely Planet's Best in Travel 2020". One picture fills up the entire page with a few words and titles overlapping it. The picture is an ariel shot of a river with trees surrounding it. The title is written in white and takes up the top portion of the front page. There are not a lot of words on this front page. The author does this in order to draw the readers attention to the photograph. The majority of the picture is filled with blue and green colors of the river and trees. This creates a natural atmosphere for the reader which draws them into the upcoming pages. At the bottom of the front cover, it is says "The best destinations, journeys and sustainable experiences for the year ahead." Although it is written very small, this line lets the reader know what the magazine will be about. The font of the title is in all capital letters and the the eyes are d...

Project Selection- My Decision

For my project I have decide to create a magazine. This is the best project fit for me because I have more experience with writing and photography rather than film making. I am thinking about either making a travel magazine or a food magazine. I travel a lot and like food, so this will be fun to do. I also took a photography class last year so I will know vaguely how to use photo shop. I am planning on doing this project alone. I have my own ideas, and working with people could be complicated. I felt inspired by the travel magazine I read in class, and now I want to create my own.
